Notes - !SOURCE: "Descendants of James Whipple," emailed to the Whipple Website by Kenneth L. Vogt (kemail hidden), 18 Aug 1999. Mentions the "New England Historical and Genealogical Register, Volume 102, 1948," as well as the "Whipple Bible," in the possession of Kenneth's cousin, Marilyn Vogt. Gives name Carolin.
!SOURCE: Email from Dawn A. Bennink (email hidden) to the Whipple Website, 9 Aug 2013. She writes:Julia's parents are incorrect. The confusion is understandable. I come by the information as a blood relative of Julia (she is my 2nd cousin, 3 x removed) and through information from her great great grandson.
Julia's mother was Caroline Gron (16 Oct 1842 Sweden - 23 Jun 1905 Mayville, Chautauqua, New York), daughter of Peter Gron (1812, Sweden - 5 Aug 1891, Mayville, Chautauqua, New York) and Caroline Cora Smith (1812, Sweden - 19 May 1897, Mayville, Chautauqua, New York). They were married in 1840 in Sweden. Julia's father was Charles Fowler Brown (18 Oct 1839, Busti, Chautauqua, New York - 16 Mar 1928, Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara, California), son of Isaac C Brown (1806, Rhode Island - October 1882, Cherry Creek, Chautauqua, New York) and Amanda Thurber (abt 1810, Michigan).
Julia was conceived just weeks before her father went to war. During the war, Caroline married James Streeter Haven, who raised Julia as his own. Upon returning from war, Charles found his girl married and his daughter being raised by another man. It is my understanding that he remained in contact with his daughter through her life, and with his granddaughter, Cora Whipple Vogt.
