!SOURCE: Obituary of Robert L. Whipple, The Western Star, 2/25/2010:WHIPPLE, Robert L. 86, of Palm Coast, FL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 20, 2010. Born on November 21, 1923 in Dayton, OH, Bob was a 1941 graduate of Lebanon High School, Lebanon, OH; proud Eagle Scout; Boy Scout Scoutmaster and Navy F6F Hellcat pilot during WWII. Following his wartime service he graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University where he met and later married the former Elizabeth (Betty) Plumb. Bob was a career Department of Defense civil servant with extended assignments at Wright-Patterson AFB while living in Lebanon and Hanscom AFB while residing in Acton, MA. After retiring from government service in 1978, Bob, an avid golfer, accomplished crossword puzzler and prolific tomato grower, enjoyed a 20-year retirement on Cape Cod, MA before moving to Palm Coast in 2007. Bob is survived by two older sisters, Caryl James formally of Lebanon and Marion Haney of Covington, LA; his wife, Betty, who lovingly referred to her partner of 60 years as "Whip;" three daughters and their husbands, Jody and Rick LaCroix from Fairfax, VA; Nancy and Marc Pare from Howell, NJ; and Robyn and Will Schubert also of Palm Coast, who all loved him as "Dad"; and six grandchildren - Kit, Elise, Laura, Eric, Brittany and Nicole who adored their "Poppa" and his timeless reference to everything costing $88.88. A private remembrance service was held at Shepherd of the Coast Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's memory to the Stuart F.
