      The Loose connection I have From Sylvanus Averill Whipple and Henry Whipple is via Nan's Genealogy, Contact person Nancy Woodhead (NandWoodheemail hidden). She lists
      • ID: I3143 Sylvanus Averill Whipple born 8 Jan 1795 in Warren Co., New Hampshire, USA Same Information as in Whipple.org. However she lists
        • Father Enoch Whipple and
        • Mother Mary Stevens b: 22 apr 1770 (unknown to Whipple.org)
        • Married 16 Aug 1818 to Alice Dailey b: 22 dec 1798 in Phelps, Ontario Co., NY.
        • Having had 10 children
          1. Mary Serena Whipple, b: 5 jul 1827 in Phelps, NY,

        Phelps, New York is not far from Oswego County, New York. Sylvanus was elected Deacon in Michigan in 1858. He may have been in Phelps, NY until 1857 where as Henty would have been 24 years old and his first child was born in 1855. Probably married before his parents went to Michigan.

      !SOURCE: Email from Jeffrey Whipple (email hidden) to the Whipple Website, 9 Mar 2014. Adds death date and place: "Rufus Irving Whipple died on May 5, 1864, at Spotsylvania, Virginia, on the first day of The Battle of The Wilderness, Civil War, from a massive hemorrhage when his leg was destroyed by cannon fire.  He was a Private in the Michigan 24th Volunteer Infantry, Company K."

He writes: "Rufus Irving Whipple actually died on August 26, 1864 in Washington D.C. and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery. He was wounded on May 5, 1864 at the Battle of the Wilderness, but hung on until he arrived at railroad station in D.C. where they amputated his gangrened leg and he bled to death."
