!BURIAL: Grave in Greenfield (outside Clarks Summit), PA. Wayne Henry Whipple believes that this may indicate that he came from Greenfield, MA.

!CENSUS: F.T. McKoy writes the following:"I noticed on a copy of an 1870 Eastern Pa. Index that I had the following census information:
"Whipple, Truman Sex: M Race: W Age: 41 Born In: MA. Town: Lenox Twp. Microfilm: Roll 1455, page 406.
"What I thought was significant was that this document states that Truman [the son] was born in MA. which supports the theory you have posted on your site that Greenfield, Pa. was named for Greenfield, Mass. and that may be where this family originated. Surely, if the son Truman was born there, then Old Truman and his wife were there, at least for awhile. If the census data is accurate-Truman was born around 1829 or 1830-probably 1830 so his brothers may also have been born in Mass. since there birth years were earlier. I am still working on my Joseph and James William Whipple and I have some recent leads that I am just now getting to work on."
!SOURCE: Email from Carol Broadwell to Weldon Whipple, 8 Feb 2005. Carol writes:Looking over a copy of 1850 census from Greenfield Township, Pennsylvania, it shows two households. One being that of Adeline C. Whipple age 43, I can't read it well and obviously her remaining children at home, Henry age 21, S.E. age 18 and my great grandmother Almina or Elmina age 10. Below that entry it shows another household with Truman age 25 and Charlotte, wife age 20. I know that Truman Sr. had a Truman Jr., so this must be the second household and his son did marry a Charlotte. Odd, but true according to Census 1850. That would mean that Truman Sr. was already dead, as I believe he did die in 1845. There was a Greenfield, Mass. listed as Adeline Charlotte Stratton Whipple's place of birth, Shelburne at Greenfield. This is confusing, because they ended up living in Greenfield Township of Pennsylvania. There must be two Greenfields.
