!OBITUARY: Auburn (N.Y.) Bulletin, Monday, 23 October 1899:Death of A. B. Whipple
The death of Alfred B. Whipple which occurred at his home, No. 11 Maple street, shortly after 8 a.m. today, will bring sorrow to many. A man of quiet, unostentatious ways, always jolly and jovial, whose kindly nature has brought relief to many a sorrowing heart and whose character is unblemished is the reputation which he had among them who knew him well.
He was born in McLean, Tompkins county, June 25, 1829, and on Dec. 31, 1848, was married to Waty M. Rogers, who survives him. Mr. and Mrs. Whipple were born in the same place, grew up together, and for 50 years and over have lived together as man and wife, celebrating their golden wedding on Dec. 31 last. Besides Mrs. Whipple he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. George Swan, of South street, and Mrs. Frank I. Lattimer, of New York, and one brother, Edmund C. Whipple, of Denver, Colorado.
He was first engaged in farming, then in mercantile pursuits, for 11 years in the mail service of the United States and for the same period keeper in Auburn prison. For the past five years he has not been engaged in active business and for three years has been in decling health.
He was a member of St. Paul's lodge, F. and A. M., of this city and of the First Baptist church, and in both of there organizations was beloved and respected as a true worker in the faith.
The arrangements for the funeral have not been made.
