!SOURCE: Email from N. Combs to Weldon Whipple, 18 Jun 2004. Norma writes:"What info I could find indicates that Phila Brown {6219} is [Alden's] mother--she is living with him in 1860, he names a daughter Phila. His birthdate of Feb. 1824 makes it impossible for Alphia ? {6218} to be his mother as she was born bet. 1820-1822, although Elias Whipple {6217} could be his father if Silas/Elias are the same person. I could find no census or vital record on Silas/Elias Whipple in either MA or OH where Elias A. Whipple {6230} was born and lived. Did Silas/Elias abandon Phila Brown and move to OH to start a new family? Are they two different people? What a coincidence that Elias A. Whipple {6230} married a woman named Phila." Norma also cites the following census information:- August 08, 1850, Age 50, b. MA, living Lanesborough, Berkshire, MA in h/h Russell A. Gibbs (Source: 1850 Census, Lanesborough, Berkshire,MA, 130.)
- June 23, 1870, Age 71, b. MA, living Lansingburgh, Rensselaer, NY in h/h son Alden B. Whipple (Source: 1870 Census, Lansingburgh, Rensselaer, NY, 12.)
Norma also cites Vital Records of Windsor, MA, Congretional Church record (marriage of Silas Whipple of Lanesborough, Berkshire, MA to Phila Brown, May 15, 1823 in Windsor, Berkshire, MA).
