    • !SOURCE: GEDCOM file from Betty Winter (email hidden) to the Whipple Website, 25 Jun 1999. In post to the Whipple Mailing List dated 24 Jul 1999, R.L. Boisjolie affirms that this information is only conjecture, and that its truth should not be assumed without further verification.

!SOURCE: Email from Vickie Welter (email hidden) to the Whipple Website, 17 Aug 2001. Indicates that linking David as a child of Zadoc and Content (Blowers) Whipple is purely conjecture. Gives Alfred, Aldred and Akford as variant middle names.

!SOURCE: Email from Richard L. Boisjolie (email hidden) to Weldon Whipple, 17 Sep 2001. Richard writes:
I believe that David Whipple is the son of Zadoc and Content Blowers Whipple. While I do not have any actual proof of birth, several things lead me to believe he is their son, they are:
      1. David, Content, and Zadoc are listed on page 429 of the 1860 Census of Mansfield Township, Cattauragus County, NY.
      2. According to most records, David Whipple was born in 1832 when Content was 41 years old (at least two census' show she was born in 1791.) This is not an extreme age for child bearing, then or now. Both my grandmothers had children when they were over 45.
      3. David Whipple and Rosina Minerva Dolph Andrews were married in 1861 after she and Leonard Andrews were divorced, probably in 1860. Leonard Andrews was the son of Livina(or Lovinia) Whipple David Whipple's sister and both children of Zadoc and Content. David and Leonard were uncle and nephew but were about the same age, both born in 1832. It must have been quite a scandal in those days.
      4. David and Rosina apparently headed west to Iowa in 1862, possibly after her son James Henry Andrews died, along with her other two children: Alice Ann Andrews, , and Lillie Lovinia Andrews.
      5. David and Rosina's first child, Evaline May Whipple, was probably born 3/9/1862 in Albany on the Mississippi, Illinois. In other places, it is indicated that she was born in Mills County, Iowa. Their second child , Bessie Corrina, was born in Mills County, Iowa 3/29/1864 and their third child was born in Cherokee County, Iowa on 6/27/1871.
      6. According to local records, Zadoc Whipple died 3/26/1868 and is buried in Parker Cemetery, Mills County, Iowa . The notation on the cemetery entry states that Content was probably also buried in the same place. This entry also refers to Jean Pollack Bastian, who was a granddaughter of Bessie Corina Whipple and William Pollack. Mills County, Iowa, of course, is where David and Rosina first settled; it seems unlikely that Zadoc and Content would make that long a trip from NY to rural Iowa at their age (each close to 80 years old) unless there was some family connection.
      7. A handwritten undated letter written from Alice Ann Andrews Smith to her half sister Bessie Corinna Whipple Pollack states " Grandparents of Leonard Andrews: Zador(sic) Whipple and Content Blowers Whipple. Their children Henry Whipple(my Ggrandfather), William, Joshua, David, and Lovina.
      8. In the same letter(different page) it is written "David Alford Whipple and Rosina Minerva Andrews were married in the year 1861 in Catteraugus Co. in the state of New York and came west in 1862. This is as good as we can get as all marriage licenses are lost on your side and mine so we will have to be satisfied. Now don't for pitty sake lay this away and forget about it but put in your book as soon as you get it."
      9. From what I can discern members of both families of Rosina Dolph Andrews Whipple are of the opinion that they are descendents of Zadoc and Content Blowers Whipple.

!SOURCE: Email from mmw4676 to the Whipple Website, 21 May 2003. Correspondent writes: "I believe David, his son Devine, his father Zadock are buried in Iowa. He may never have been married to Mary Rounds, even though they were together for two census. Seems he may have married, then took one son out west and ended up in Iowa with a new family and his son from Mary Rounds. Also, seems his father Zadock and wife moved out to Iowa to be with them."

!SOURCE: Email from Marge Whipple (email hidden) to the Whipple Website, 10 Sep 2001. Cites 1860 Census of New Albany, New Jersey, where he (age 27) is listed as the father of Seth (age 6), Devine (age 4, "shown as female-but I was told he was a male"), and Scenith (age 2), in the town of Machias, New York.

!SOURCE: Email from Joey Babay to the Whipple Website, 19 Oct 2002. Indicates that middle name is not Seth, but (according to censuses) Alfred or Alford.

      !NOTE: Marge Whipple writes:
"In 1860, David was 27 and Mary, his wife, was 23 renting their own farm. (Family information states that David Seth took 1 son, Devine with him and left for someplace out west (possibly Kansas, or beyond--and left Seth and the girl [Scenith] with his mother Mary Rounds Whipple possibly as a horse trader) and in a later Census she alone was shown as an apparent boarder--don't know what became of the 2 children until Seth appeared as a laboror at 21. Mathias, N.Y. was the site of the poorhouse--possibly they were there.

"From the1855 Census in New Albany, N.Y.--Seth's father, David appeared to be a boarder in the "Rounds" home of 15 children--he was 21 in 1855.(born in Cattaraugus County, N.Y.) The town historian thought the Rounds were migrant farmers from Ohio and settled in this area--the value of their property was $10--considered a catchall when the property was considered a Shanty."

!SOURCE: Email from N. Combs to Weldon Whipple, 5 Feb 2020. Cites Family Tree, Ancestry.com (death). Also notes the following:
In an earlier email I speculated that Seth A. Whipple (1817-1849) was a son of Zadock 37081 and Content 37086 Whipple. Also suggested in the WGW as possible children are Lovina 37094 Whipple and Susan Ann 37097 Whipple. I wondered if there were any probability that Zadock and Content could be their parents, and there is supporting census records to show that they could be.

1830 Federal Census, Franklinville, Cattaraugus, NY p.163

      • Males: 2 under 5 (b. bet. 1825-1830), 1 5-9 (b. bet. 1821-1825), 1 10-14 (b. between 1816-1820) and one 40-49 (b. bet. 1781-1790)
      • Females: 1 5-9 (b. bet. 1821-1825), 1 30-39 (b. bet. 1791-1800)
So, four males b. bet. 1816-1830 and one female b. bet. 1821-1825: Seth 1817, Henry 1829, David abt 1830 and Susan b. Dec. 1820. Lovina mar. in 1827, so she is not included with Zadock on this census. Zadock would be the male bet. 40-49 and Content the female bet. 30-39--and one son b. bet. 1821-1825 unaccounted for.

1840 Census, Yorkshire, Cattaraugus, NY p.19

      • Males: 1 under 5 (b. bet. 1835-1840), 1 5-9 (b. bet. 1831-1835), 2 10-14 (b. bet. 1826-1830), 1 20-29 (b. bet. 1811-1820), 1 50-59 (b. bet. 1781-1790)
      • Females: 1 15-19 (b. bet. 1821-1825), 1 40-49 (b. bet. 1791-1800) Shows five males b. bet. 1811 and 1840, and 1 fenale b. bet. 1821-1825: Seth 1817, Henry abt 1829, David abt 1830, Joshua abt 1833, and Susan b. Dec. 1820. Zadock is the male 50-59 and Content the female 40-49; unaccounted for: one son b. bet. 1835-1840.

Of course, with census ages varying from census to census, Zadock's children could fall into a different age group, e.g. Henry whose dates are given as 1819 and 1829 and Joshua who is 17 in 1850, 16 in 1855 and 20 in 1860.
