She's Lois Whipple with Levi, 22, and the whole Sturgess family in the 1850 MI Oakland Co. Troy Twp census we have Levi 33831, that is...I'd guess. She's gone by 1860 & replaced by Mary A (& Ada)"

Adds marriage date (for marriage to Irena aka Lois Surgess), citing Oakland County marriage book D pg 71. as well as burial place. Adds year of marriage to Dorcas S. Lyon (French). Regarding Dorcas, Lucinda writes:Now Dorcas was previously married too, but I am not sure what the name was. The family Bible had "Dorcas S Lyon (french) " I have searched the name French (including at Oakland County Court House) and have talked to many people in the French family and they say that they have no record of Dorcas being married to a Mr French. Therefore, I have to assume that the name was french in orgin, hence the name Crosset? (I also have the Lyon family back to the ship The Lyon, probably the Winthrop Fleet so she was not french) They are probably the same person although I have found almost no proof of this. The 1870 Census has Dorcas Crosset 27 and the age for Dorcas Lyon would be the same. I think they lived together for a while before they married. Cindy asserts that Levi didn't marry Mary A.:The Mary A you have as [his] wife belongs to a totally different Levi Whipple family. Our Levi lived in Oakland County and after his first wife died, he moved to Tuscola County. The Levi that is married to Mary lived in Washtenaw County. You can find both Levi's in the census records at the same time. The 1850 Census has my Levi in Oakland County and L.L. Whipple in Washtenaw County. The 1860 Census has LEWE Whipple 30 years old married to Mary A. My Levi would have been 34 years old at this time. This other Levi/Lewe's parents were Mason and Polly Whipple. It had me confused for a little bit too because I thought they were the same person, but they are not. And I have found no connection to the Rhode Island Whipples for this other Levi. Note (Weldon Whipple): The Levi Whipple listed in the 4 Jul 1860 Census of Sterling, Macomb, Michigan, p. 101, is a perfect fit for this Levi (in my opinion). The age and birth place in that census match our Levi, and Macomb County adjoins Oakland County. I have elected to retain Levi's marriage to Mary A. (at least for now--11 Jul 2005).
