Dr. Deryle Taylor Whipple, age 73, died on Saturday, January 13, 2007, following an extended illness. Funeral services were held at the Perry United Methodist Church in Perry, Ga. Interment followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Cochran, Ga.
Dr. Whipple was the son of Evelyn Taylor and Allen Pugh Whipple. A 1949 graduate of Perry High School, he attended the Citadel and graduated from West Point Military Academy in 1952. While in the service, Dr. Whipple was in the Army Artillery and the Army Medical Corps. He graduated from Emory University Medical School and did pediatric residency in Cincinnati, Ohio, and later belonged to several hospital staffs in the Philadelphia area.
A longtime member of the West Point Alumni Association, he was a member of the American Legion, Perry Kiwanis Club,, Perry Country Club Men's Golf Association, Tuesday AM Men's Prayer Group, Perry United Methodist Church and the IHS Sunday School Class. He moved back to his hometown of Perry in 1990 after retiring as a pediatric physician in Cherry Hill, N. J.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Whipple of Perry, children, Valerie Whipple Craig of Philadelphia; David Whipple and Michael Whipple of Washington; John Whipple of New Jersey; Michelle Whipple of Philadelphia; Mark Rogers of New Jersey; Pam Urban of Perry; sister-in-law Elinor Whipple of New Jersey; and 13 grandchildren.
