    • !SOURCE: Email from R. Gilebarto to the Whipple Web Site, 9 Feb 1998. Gives birth 3 Mar 1871.

!DEATH: Died pulling a "tin heater" (wood stove) on himself and getting crushed. --R. Gilebarto

!BIOGRAPHY: He was fond of wearing several knit hats at one time and this saved him from being mugged by a would-be robber who was not able to knock him out as intended by clubbing him on the head. Another fond story was the dress and bonnet he was made to wear by the Quaker women to save him from serving in the military. They felt he was more useful on the farm and it is still recalled with a grin seeing this ugly, large "woman" wearing men's boots running out to the barn to milk the cows every morning and having cow dung caked to the hem of "her" dress. He faithfully wore the garb until he was released of the hoax by the women-folk. --R. Gilebarto
