Henry Ethan son of Elvira (Judson) Whipple was married by Rev AK Moulton in Chester, Geauga to Betsey Packard dau of Col John Packard of Plainfield, Hampshire, MA. Henry attended Oberlin College, Baptist preacher 1839, and returned east and then moved to Ohio from Plainfield, MA after his marriage. His first child Roscious was born 1841. Henry worked at Hillsdale College, then he took his family to California and all of his children followed except Roscius. He received land from his brother's estate in California and he took over the abandoned military post at Fort Bragg, became a teacher, then opened a store 1872, Whipple and Sons. Henry was also a journalist working for several publications and in 1890 was living in San Francisco, returning to Ft. Bragg three years later. He died aboard a steamer heading for a visit to Oakland.
