!SOURCE: Email from Liz Bennett (email hidden) to the Whipple Website, 3 Oct 2012. She writes: "I am researching John Whipple, whom I believe is my ancestor. Based on numerous genealogies and the fact that he was born in Coventry, RI in 1778, I believe this John Whipple was married to Sophia Potter, also of Coventry, RI (marriage date 10/30/1802 per online genealogies). They appear to have had at least one daughter in Coventry, Almira, in 1805. She is mentioned in the Gove book (along with parents John and Sophia). John shows up in the 1810 and 1820 census residing in Stamford, VT where they had my ggg grandmother, Susan Whipple Walden, in 1820/1. They moved to the Berkshires, MA (Adams and Clarksburg). Sophia Whipple appears in the 1840 and 1850 census without John, so an 1836 date of death is consistent with the records I have. I'd like to know if anyone has any additional information regarding John Whipple and wife Sophia Potter."

The old burial ground, which was owned by the First Baptist Church of North Adams and was located on the east side of North Church Street, was moved at the direction and expense of the city of North Adams in order to construct the public Colegrove Park. Details of the move can be found in Chap. 402 Acts and Resolves Passed 27 June 1900 by the General Court Massachusetts avail online at google books."
